Zim Gravel Travel (ZGT) is a guided Adventure Bike Tour of Zimbabwe normally over a 13-day period exploring some of the most remote scenic regions of Zimbabwe. Expedition Leaders Mark Taylor and Treffon Smith both born and bred in this country back when it was still Rhodesia have a love for this country that they love to share with their clients. Mark originally started this trip back in 2010, it was through this trip that he met Treffon a fellow “When we” and they have been doing the trip together since 2012 with a 2-year interlude during the Covid pandemic. The trip is for experienced capable riders that are skilled in offroad and technical riding as there are roads, gravel, jeep tracks, and cattle paths that make up the 3500km of this trip. Riders’ skills and fitness are tested daily; this is a small sacrifice in order to experience the best that Zimbabwe has to offer. Once through the border at Beitbridge the trip literally turns into the bush within 150m, and tar roads are only used when coming into town for fuel. Gravel, thick sand, mud, river crossings, and extreme temperatures are all part of this epic adventure. Most of the clients are repeat customers that join year after year. Riders prequalified before being allowed to join the trip. Due to the remoteness and distances traveled, it is imperative that riders are capable and competent. There is no backup vehicle, and clients are required to travel as light as possible due to the terrain they will travel. Breakdowns and injuries are handled by the capable Expedition Leaders as and when needed, both are trained qualified guides with First Aid certification and good mechanical skills. Riders are however rewarded with very comfortable lodge accommodation every night, hot showers, scrumptious meals, cold beers, and comfy beds to ensure that they are energized and ready to tackle the next day’s ride. On a typical Zim Gravel Travel Tour (ZGT) places visited include Beitbridge, Masvingo, Chiredzi, Vumba, Penalonga, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Birchenough Bridge, Mutare, Odzi, Nyanga, Harare, Mazowe, Bindura, Gweru, Chinhoyi, Kariba, Victoria Falls, Hwange, Bulawayo, Matobo, Gwanda and many more remote rural villages. This trip truly gives the client an” unplugged” experience of Zimbabwe in all its natural beauty. The adventure of a lifetime!
